First and foremost, you need to know the basics of the game. What is baseball? This is a sport consisting of two teams and it is played in a special field known as innings. They are divided into two parts which include the top and the bottom innings. The other team scores while the other team would defend the field. To score, the player has to hit the ball thrown and run in the four different bases and to reach the home plate. In the event that the runner is tagged out by the defensive team prior to completing the run, he is out. The teams will now switch places after 3 outs.

Is college and professional baseball games different? The basic concepts are the same although the rules may vary. The game for professional and college baseball have 9 innings. There are no ties in baseball which only means that it can reach up to 10th or 11 innings, etc.

All of the players who belong to the defensive team are on the field while the offensive players are there one a time as they hit the ball. As the game continues, there are up to 4 offensive players on the field. For runners, there are 3 safe spots that are located at every corner. They are called as bases. In order for a team to get a score,runners must touch these bases. The runner may also opt to stop in a base. He can wait until he can run to the next.

Each team in baseball is comprised of 25 players. But only 9 players are on the field one at a time.
They have their designated positions. In an offensive play, the players are batters where they will take turns and hit the ball. When they hit the ball, they can run from the home plate to the different bases and get back to the home plate in order to score. On the other hand, there is the defensive team that would try to recover the ball. There are 9 defensive roles in baseball. The pitcher is the one that pitches the ball to the batter. The catcher would take the ball if the batter fails to hit it. There are the first and the second baseman guards and also a third baseman guards. In addition, there are also outfielders who will guard the different parts of the outfield.

Baseball players all play in a designed field also known as baseball diamond. The field is composed of two parts: the infield and the outfield. The center of the action lies in the infield. The batter who is also an offensive player is positioned at the home plate. He will wait until he can swing the bat and hit the ball coming from the pitcher’s mound. Batters will stand in the rectangular spot. The bases are positioned counterclockwise starting from the home plate, 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
